Turn a completed task into a process your team can repeat
A useful procedure explains what to do, what information to use and how to judge the result. Connections give ChatGPT access to the tools needed to carry it out.

Source guide updated 2026-09-30. Features depend on your plan, permissions and environment.
Choose a task you can evaluate
Start with work your team already understands. Define what should be completed, the source materials and what a good result looks like. Avoid starting with a vague instruction to automate an entire department.
Separate instructions from access
A skill or reusable procedure captures steps, criteria, templates and exceptions. A plugin or connected app provides the supported access and actions. Writing instructions does not grant permission to a system; the connection must be separately available and authorized.
Test with real cases
Capture the judgment a person currently supplies: which version is authoritative, what must be checked and when to stop. Test a first version on normal and incomplete inputs. Compare the output to your criteria, refine the instructions and have another team member use the procedure.
